Job description: Invited from Hungary by the Kopparberg County Council, Sweden. As the Medical Director of the Mammography Department, I am responsible for a department consisting of four physicians, nine X-ray technologists and a clerical staff of four. I have been responsible for this unit since its establishment in 1977. I am also the Director of the Kopparberg County mammographic screening program, which began in 1977. The Department carries out breast cancer screening by mammography on 200-250 women a day. In addition, 15-20 referred patients are examined by mammography daily.
During the past 27 years more than 1,000,000 mammographic examinations have been performed by the Department of Mammography, Falun Central Hospital . The screening program started as a scientifically designed, controlled, randomized, population-based trial performed under the auspices of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. My publications related to this project are included in the list of publications. Since 1987 service screening has been offered to all women aged 40-69 living in Dalarna (Kopparberg) county.
I have given teaching courses in mammography to radiologists in the following countries: Sweden, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Italy, Scotland, Hungary, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia, Japan, China, Chile, The United Kingdom, and Mexico
